The Moonchildren were formed in 1986 by visual artist and singer-songwriter Oliver Fauser and his childhood friend Wolfram Gumbert somewhere in the Black Forest. Other musicians came and left, depending on the projects and plans. In 1987 the two moved to New York and tried their luck there. Wolfram left the band eventually and so from there it was basically a one-man-project headed by Oliver.
Over the years he lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco and returned to Europe to live in London, Milan, Hamburg and Cologne. He became a single father of two boys and finally moved back to his homeplace, the Black Forest.
There he started working close with the well-known drummer Martin Claas (Joey Belladonna, Evereve) and guitarist Patrick Hanemann (Scorzonera, Pity Hole) and the result was the production of the album „Feel“ in 2016.
Oliver then concentrated more on his visual art, and successfully exhibited and sold in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and Tokyo and a few more places.
After that successful phase in the art scene, the Covid-19 pandemic brought an abrupt end to his art life. So in 2021, Oliver returned to his musical roots. The first song he wrote, the captivating country-pop song „My Darling One,“ served as the catalyst and kept him going.
It was during that time when he took care of his mother, who suffered from dementia, and her eventual death became a dramatic backdrop to the production. The grief and tumultuous events in his life, including the sale of his long-time home in a small town in the Black Forest, became a source of inspiration for Oliver. From this challenging time, he drew new joy and strength that propelled him. He decided to embark on the Camino in Portugal. This adventurous journey became a turning point, encouraging him to write and record more songs and produce a new album.
Upon his return from the Camino, Oliver’s father passed away, just six months after his mother’s death. And two close family members fell seriously ill with cancer. Despite these setbacks, he remained committed to his musical project. He shed the bad habits of the past and found the love of his life. A three-month joint journey through South America ensued.
The result of this transformation, of loss and love, is the album „Grace.“ It is a tribute to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of music and it not only highlights the versatility and creative mastery of songwriter Oliver, but also represents his personal journey through highs and lows, loss, and new beginnings.
